Lt. Ron Buckner

Lieutenant Ron Buckner, a Houston native, began his career with the Longview Police Department in 1982 after graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry.  During his career, Lieutenant Buckner has been assigned to several different units.  These units include Patrol, the Street Crimes Unit, and the County Organized Drug Enforcement (CODE) Unit.  He was also assigned to work in the Criminal Investigations Unit as a member of the Repeat Offender Project as well as an Agent assigned to the Vice/Intelligence/Narcotics Unit.  For 11 years, Lieutenant Buckner was assigned as the Department's first Narcotics K9 handler.  Lieutenant Buckner was promoted to Sergeant in 2001 and has served as a Patrol Supervisor on the Midnight and Day shifts.  In 2004, he became the Supervisor over the School Resource Unit.  In November, 2005 he was promoted to Lieutenant and has since served as Watch Commander for Day, Evening, and Midnight shifts.  He currently serves as the Lieutenant over the Special Operations Divisions, which includes the Traffic Section, School Resource Unit, and Warrant Section.  Lieutenant Buckner also serves as the Coordinator for the Peer Support Group and the Honor Guard. 

Lieutenant Buckner is a member of the Coalition for Drug Free Youth and serves on the Martin Luther King Celebration Committee, the Mayor's Task Force on Rail Passenger Facilities, and the Race Relations Committee.  He is a member of the Texas Education Agency's Improvement Planning for Discipline committee as well. 

In 1997, Lieutenant Buckner received a Police Commendation for a significant narcotics seizure and was named Supervisor of the Year.  In 2008, Lieutenant Buckner received a Meritorious Conduct Award for his work with the Police Department's Project Blue Santa, the Police Department's holiday outreach program for disadvantaged youth.  In 2009, Lieutenant Buckner attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  He is a graduate of the 238th Session.
