We are a municipal agency serving a population of over 80, 000 residents, and are located on Interstate 20 in Northeast Texas. Our workforce consists of 234 sworn and civilian personnel dedicated to providing professional police services. We are committed to working with our citizens to address those issues which affect the quality of life in our community. Programs such as our neighborhood and business crime watch groups, Citizens Police Academy, and our Citizens on Patrol illustrate our commitment towards making the City of Longview a safe community to live, work, and visit.

Chief Don Dingler began his career with the Longview Police Department in 1973 and was promoted to the rank of Chief of Police on February 1, 2011. During his career, Chief Dingler has been assigned to a wide variety of assignments as both an officer and/or supervisor, including patrol, traffic, training, jail services and narcotics. As a command level officer, he has been the Commander in all major components of the Police Department.  Prior to his appointment to Chief of Police he served as the Commander of the Field Operations Bureau which includes Patrol, Traffic, School Resource Unit and the Special Investigations and Apprehension Section.

Chief Dingler is a Longview native and graduated from Longview High School . He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at Tyler. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas.
