Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for employment as a Police Officer for the Longview Police Department:
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have a high school diploma or 12 hours of college with
a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale if the applicant has a GED.
- The hours must be from an institution accredited by one of the
regional accrediting agencies and supported by transcripts from
institutions attended. Officers must have 60 college hours or
30 college hours and obtain the other 30 hours within 2 years
of promotion for promotion to the rank of Sergeant. Officers must
possess a Bachelor's Degree for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant.
The ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 21 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.
- Vision - Possess 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected,
in each eye. Uncorrected vision cannot exceed 20/100 in each eye,
unless vision is corrected by use of contact lenses or glasses
which must be worn while on duty and during all law enforcement
activities. Must be free from dichromatic color blindness, night
blindness and any other visual deficiencies or limitations.
- Hearing - Possess hearing with less than 30 Db loss, either
corrected or uncorrected in each ear. Uncorrected hearing cannot
exceed 60 Db in each ear.
- Must have never been convicted of an offense above a Class
B misdemeanor. No convictions for a Class B misdemeanor offense
within the past 10 years.
- Must not have received deferred adjudication for any Class A
or Class B misdemeanor or any felony.
- No convictions for any family violence offense of any degree
ever.
- Must never have been or currently on a court-ordered community
supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade
of Class B misdemeanor or for an offense of the grade of Class
B misdemeanor within the past 10 years.
- Must not currently be under indictment for a criminal offense.
- Driving record must meet City of Longview standards. All applicants
must possess or have the ability to obtain a Texas Driver's License.

- Must be of good moral character and have stable school/work/driving
record.
- Must not have been discharged from any military service under
less than honorable conditions.
- Must not have pending litigation - criminal or civil (including
divorce).
