The Longview Police Department continually recruits for qualified candidates. Interested individuals may apply for police
officer positions by completing an employment application and submitting it to Longview Police Recruiting. Application
packets may be requested by contacting the Longview Police Recruiting Section at the address and phone numbers listed below
or by downloading the application from this web site. Applicants must meet minimum job requirements as posted before an
application will be accepted. Once an application is accepted, the applicant is entered into a database of interested
individuals for notification of future interview dates.
The initial interview is held before three Board members who rate the applicant on integrity, interpersonal skills,
judgment/decision making, dependability, and written communication skills. Candidates who are passed by the Board will continue in the hiring process.
The next step is the Physical
Ability Test . This test is scored on a pass/fail basis and
consists of physical tasks which a police officer would be expected
to encounter in the course of performing patrol duties.
After successfully completing the Physical Ability Test, the applicant will be scheduled for a polygraph examination.
A complete background investigation will be conducted on those applicants who successfully complete the polygraph examination.
Upon completion of the background investigation, the applicant will be scheduled to appear before a Command Staff Interview Board. Applicants who pass this Board may receive a conditional job offer or be placed on an eligibility roster for six months.
Applicants presented a conditional job offer will be required to successfully complete a drug screen, physical and psychological examination, and a hearing and vision test prior to appointment to the position of police officer.
Recruits who are not already licensed as Peace Officers with the State of Texas will be provided with the training necessary
to obtain a license. The recruit must successfully pass the Basic Peace Officer course within a time prescribed by the
Department and must pass the State Licensing Test in order to remain employed.
