Media Relations Policy Statement

The Longview Police Department recognizes the right of the community and the news media to be informed of the activities of the Department and incidents in the community, which affect or are of general interest to the public.  An open relationship with the public and the representatives of the news media ensures a high level of trust and confidence on the part of the community. The Longview Police Department engages in proactive efforts to foster positive relations with the media, which includes cooperation with media efforts to the greatest extent possible through the provision of factual information.  The Department has a responsibility to inform the public and the news media of the activities and operations of the Department while at the same time honoring its duty to preserve the privacy of individuals to the degree authorized by law as well as the rights of the accused.


Kevin Brownlee is the Public Information Officer for the Longview Police Department.  Officer Brownlee is a graduate of the University of Houston-Downtown and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice as well as a Master Peace Officer certification.  Officer Brownlee has 18 years of law enforcement experience and has worked previously at the Sugar Land Police Department and the Texas Attorney General's Office. 

Officer Brownlee is responsible for accurately disseminating information to the public through the news media, the Department's website and through social networking sites.  Officer Brownlee also responds to crime scenes to coordinate media personnel and to coordinate the release of information regarding offenses and investigations being conducted by the Department.
