Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
Over the past several years, the Longview Police Department has seen a sustained rise in the number of calls for service in multi-housing communities. Some apartment communities have become so unmanageable that they have ceased operation, depriving Longview residents of safe and affordable housing. The goal of the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is to reduce crime, and the fear of crime, in rental communities.
Why Rental Communities?
A Crime Free Multi-Housing Program encourages a cooperative relationship among residents, owners and managers of apartment communities while in partnership with Longview Police to reduce crime and the fear of crime. Problems in apartment communities cannot be solved individually by police, residents or apartment management. A partnership is needed to effectively control risk factors associated with apartment community crime and to make each complex a great place to live.
How it works
The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program consists of three phases:
- Phase one-manager/owner training session
- Phase two-crime prevention through environmental design property inspection
- Phase three-a safety social gathering
