The mission of the Longview Police Department Canine Unit is to assist patrol in the apprehension of criminal suspects, the search and rescue of missing or endangered persons, and the search for and seizure of illegal narcotics. The police canine is a tool to be used in combination with other police resources to serve the needs of our community.
The Canine Unit is comprised of 2 canines. Each canine and the dogs handler participates in an ongoing training and certification program designed to meet the specific purposes of the team.

Recently Officer Deloach and Joost participated in a week long National Narcotics Detector Dog Conference and Traning Seminar held in Angleton, Texas. 125 teams participated in the competition. Officer Deloach and his canine Joost placed second in the competition.
