Officer John Rolls joined the Longview Police Department in April of 1983 as a Reserve Officer and during his service as a Reserve Officer he was recognized as Reserve Officer of the Year.

In September of 1987 he was hired as a full-time Police Officer and has spent his career with the department working in patrol with his first assignment as a Park Patrol Officer. John was also a Police Area Representative for District "C", Beat 60 for several years.

John is a member of the Longview Police Department's Crisis Negotiations Unit and is a member in good standing with the Texas Crime Prevention Association and Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators.

John holds an Associate Degree from Kilgore College and a Master Peace Officer Certificate as well as a Crime Prevention Inspector License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

During his career, John has been awarded the Certificate of Civic Achievement, Unit Commendation Award and Officer of the Year as well as several monthly awards for Community Policing Employee of the Month. In his current assignment as the District "C" Police Area Representative, John is responsible for supporting and aiding Beat supervisors within the district and administering the department's crime prevention programs while maintaining a partnership with other community relations organizations and agencies as well as other similar community groups within the city. He promotes crime prevention by developing and implementing community relations programs in support of the "Community Relations Action Plan" that addresses the community's needs.

John also disseminates information and input from citizens to the appropriate police unit or division. He manages a day to day operation of storefront type activities as required while performing traditional police duties. When called upon, John conducts residential and commercial security surveys and assists in conducting citizen surveys. John schedules daily activities and events and he maintains a list of referral agencies and refers persons with problems to the appropriate agencies within the community as well as performing tasks, services and assignments as instructed by the District Commander.
